Food and beverage products are recalled due to reasons ranging from contamination to incorrect labelling, and here is New Food’s roundup of the most recent cases.

Limena, LLC recalls Salvadorean String Cheese (Quesillo Cheese)

Limena, LLC of Palm Springs, Florida is recalling its one lb. (16 ounce) blocks of Salvadorean String Cheese (Quesillo Cheese) semi-soft cheese because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Limena, LLC is recalling its one lb. (16 ounce) blocks of Salvadorean String Cheese (Quesillo Cheese) semi-soft cheese because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recalled “Salvadorean String Cheese (Quesillo Cheese)” was distributed to retail stores and through mail orders. The product has a blue and white label and comes in a clear plastic vacuum package marked with lot #1041020 on the top. The expiration date is blank.

The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in one sample of one lb. (16 ounce) blocks of Salvadorean String Cheese (Quesillo Cheese).

The production of the product has been suspended while the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the company continue to investigate the source of the problem.

Consumers who have purchased the one lb. block of Salvadorean String Cheese (Quesillo Cheese) are urged to discard the product.

J&J Distributing recalls salad products

J&J Distributing, a St. Paul, Minnesota establishment, is recalling approximately 136 pounds of ready-to-eat salad products that contain meat due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The products contain pine nuts (tree nut), a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label. 

The ready-to-eat salad products that contain meat were produced on various dates from 21 December 2019 through 27 December 2019.

The problem was discovered during routine FSIS inspection activities. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.  

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Dianne’s Fine Desserts recalls Product Sienna Turtle Brownie

Dianne’s Fine Desserts of Newburyport is recalling 26 cases of product Sienna Turtle Brownie because it may contain undeclared peanuts.

Dianne’s Fine Desserts of Newburyport is recalling 26 cases of product Sienna Turtle Brownie because it may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

Sienna Turtle Brownie 8495241115 lot code 19198 was distributed through retail wholesale clubs located in MI, IL, IN.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing peanuts was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes.

Consumers who have purchased Sienna Turtle Brownie 8495241115 lot code 19198 are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

THIS UK recalls two THIS Isn’t Chicken plant-based products

 THIS UK is recalling THIS Isn’t Chicken Plant-Based Sea-Salt & Black Pepper Pieces and THIS Isn’t Chicken Plant-Based Tikka Pieces due to incorrect date labelling. The products have been labelled with ‘use by’ dates in December 2020 instead of dates in January 2020.

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notices.

Consumers who have purchased any of the above products have been advised not to eat them. Instead, they have been urged to return them to the store from where they were purchased for a full refund.
