Food and beverage products are recalled due to reasons ranging from contamination to incorrect labelling, and here is New Food’s roundup of the most recent cases.

Coop recalls Frozen Hash Browns

Coop is recalling Frozen Hash Browns because they may contain pieces of white plastic.

The possible presence of plastic makes this product unsafe to eat.

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling the product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

Consumers who have purchased the above product have been advised not to eat it and instead return it to the store from where it was purchased for a full refund.

Amy’s Kitchen recalls Gluten Free Vegetable Lasagne

Amy’s Kitchen is recalling Gluten Free Vegetable Lasagne because the packs may contain metal shavings.

The presence of metal makes this product unsafe to eat.

Mountain Rose Herbs recalls Organic Kudzu Root Herbal Supplement

Mountain Rose Herbs (MRH) of Eugene, Oregon is recalling all sizes of its Organic Kudzu Root Herbal Supplement because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled Organic Kudzu Root Herbal Supplement was distributed to customers who ordered from mountainroseherbs.com, purchased at the company’s retail shop in Eugene, Oregon, or placed mail orders by phone or fax between the dates of 12 June 2019 to 2 March 2020. It is possible MRH customers also resold the Kudzu Root to their own clientele.

Mountain Rose Herbs also distributed product directly to customers in AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY, British of Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec of Canada.

No illnesses have been reported to date. The potential for contamination was noted after testing by the company revealed the presence of Salmonella in a portion of its ingredients in inventory..

Consumers who have purchased the affected Kudzu Root are urged not to consume and should return product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Lindt & Sprüngli (US) Inc. recall Lindt Excellence 85% Cocoa Chocolate Bars

Lindt & Sprüngli (USA) Inc. of Stratham, New Hampshire, is issuing a voluntary recall of one lot of its Lindt Excellence 85% Cocoa chocolate bars due to the bars being wrapped in the wrong packaging. The bars are labelled as Excellence 85% Cocoa, but contain Lindt Excellence Dark Caramel Sea Salt bars. Therefore, this product does not contain accurate information about allergens. Consumers who have a food allergy or have any sensitivity to milk or soy should not consume the product as it could result in a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.

Lindt chocolateThe recalled Lindt Excellence 85% Cocoa Chocolate Bars were distributed nationwide (US) to wholesale and online retailers.

Lindt has received no reports of any illness, allergic reactions or allergen-related complaints for this product to date. The recall was initiated following consumer contacts regarding the wrong product inside the Lindt Excellence 85% Cocoa bar.

Consumers who may have purchased this product may contact Lindt USA directly for a voucher for replacement product.
