There were several high-profile food recalls in the UK1,2 last year, as well as outbreaks of Listeria recorded in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.3 These food safety concerns have rightly resulted in increased scrutiny from government agencies and consumer groups globally, with pressure on manufacturers to readdress the importance of a dedicated food safety programme throughout their supply chain.
