Professor Chris Elliott, Director of the Global Institute for Food Security at Queen’s University Belfast, delivered his final report into food authenticity today (4 August 2014).
The aim of the independent review – commissioned by the Government in the wake of last year’s horsemeat scandal – was to advise and make recommendations to the Secretary of the State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs; the Secretary of State for Health; and also industry, on issues which impact consumer confidence in the authenticity of food products including systemic failures in food supply networks and systems of oversight with implications for food safety and public health.
