Recall roundup: Listeria alerts and lead contamination

In Germany, Natur-brand Brat- und Grillkäse, manufactured by Berglandmilch, is being recalled due to a possible contamination with Listeria. The manufacturer says the affected product has a lot code of 115890 and a best before of 2.8.21. Berglandmilch says the affected product has already been withdrawn from shelves, yet it is releasing a recall notice out of caution. Consumers who have purchased this product can return it to the store it was bought from for a full refund without a receipt. The Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) says the product was sold in the state of Bavaria, though the Austrian state of Lower Austria is also affected.

Undeclared allergens

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has notified consumers of a recall Mr Healthy BBQ Soya Chips because they contain peanuts which are not mentioned on the label. The chips, which are manufactured by KGN London, are a possible health risk for anyone who has an allergy to peanuts. The FSA says the affected products have a best before date of November 2021, and is advising consumers with an allergy to peanuts not to eat the product, but instead return it for a full refund.

In the US, Cuisine Solutions is recalling some of its Just Egg plant-based “bites” due to undeclared milk and egg. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) “a limited number of 2-pouch retail packages may contain an incorrect sealed pouch containing whole-egg and milk products.  The interior plastic pouches are properly labelled to distinguish the products.” Affected products have a best before date between 22.2.2022 and 9.4.2022. Consumers may return for a full refund any incorrect packaging that contained the incorrect product to the retailer where they were purchased.

Foreign Objects

The BVL in Germany has also alerted consumers to a recall of several Kania brand sauce products as they may have been contaminated with lead. The affected products (Kania Fix Nudel-Schinken Gratin, Kania Fix Bolognese und Kania Fix für Lasagne) were sold in Lidl stores nationwide. Lidl is advising customers to return the product to a Lidl store where they will refund the cost of the product without a receipt.
