Recall Roundup: animal matter contamination and undeclared allergens

Pathogens

West Virginian manufacturer Deskins Candies is recalling several of its products because they might be contaminated with Salmonella.

The following 16 oz products are being recalled: Deskins Candies Peanut Butter Fudge, Deskins Candies Peanut Butter No-Bake, Deskins Candies Peanut Butter Pinwheel, and Deskins Candies Chocolate No-Bake . The products were distributed in North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Meanwhile, Revive Superfoods is recalling many of its products as the raspberries within them might be contaminated with norovirus. The full list of affected products, which were sold nationwide online, is available on the Canadian Government’s website.

Undeclared allergens

Ben & Jerry’s is recalling one batch of Ben & Jerry’s Moo-phoria™ Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream sold at UK supermarket Sainsbury’s.

As a result of a packaging error, it has the incorrect lid of Ben & Jerry’s Salted Caramel Brownie Ice Cream resulting in peanuts not being mentioned on the lid, meaning the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.

However, the tub contains the correct nutritional and allergen information on the back of pack.

Also in the UK, Suma is recalling Suma Organic Spicy Lentil Soup because of undeclared wheat (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label. Again, as a result of a packaging error, some tins may contain Suma Cheesy Pasta Pot.

In Canada, Crave Stevia is recalling its Dark All Natural Chocolate because it contains milk not declared on the label. The recalled product has been sold in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Ontario, and may have been distributed in other provinces and territories, as well as being sold online.

Staying in Canada, a particular shrimp dumpling product has been recalled as it contains egg not declared on the label. The full details of the product are again available on the Canadian Government’s website.
