The NFCU has told New Food that it visited a premises “linked to a criminal investigation into alleged food fraud”.
Today, the National Food Crime Unit (NFCU) has revealed that on 22 March 2023 it “visited a premises linked to a criminal investigation” into “alleged food fraud”.
Darren Davies, Head of the Food Standard Agency’s National Food Crime Unit, told New Food: “Working with Derbyshire Constabulary and Derbyshire County Council Trading Standards, the FSA’s NFCU has today visited a premises linked to a criminal investigation into alleged food fraud.”
He also clarified that the “live investigation involves meat misrepresented as being British”.
The NFCU clarified its position, declining to offer any additional details at this stage as “it could impact the criminal investigation or any future proceedings”.
Davies however did confirm that the organisation takes “food fraud very seriously and are acting urgently to protect the consumer”.
