Hellmann’s to provide free food parcels during Ramadan

Hellmann’s has partnered with UK charity Human Appeal to offer free “Iftar for All” food parcels to those  who are facing food insecurity during Ramadan.

Hellmann’s has said that the food parcels will available to those in need “whether observing Ramadan or not”.

According to research, 65 percent of people are concerned about increased costs this Ramadan. In addition, 78 percent of those asked said they spend more on food items during the occasion than at any other time of year.

Those who are eligible will be able to collect a free food parcel from one of the participating beneficiaries across the UK from 3 April. Locations include London, Birmingham and Manchester regions and the donations will last throughout the month of Ramadan.

The “Iftar for All” food parcels have been created in partnership with Afia Begom of Afelia’s Kitchen, a British-Bangladeshi chef and recipe developer, who handpicked a selection of ingredients to create “a week’s worth” of Iftar meals. Hellmann’s has said that the boxes could limit food waste as “the ingredients will include a mix of non-perishable, halal food products that can be consumed by all, including chickpeas, dates and Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise”.

Commenting on the donations, Rachel Chambers, Hellmann’s Brand Manager, said: “We hope this initiative will really help some families across the country, whether they are sharing an Iftar meal with loved ones, or simply struggling to afford food during these difficult times.”

Providing his thoughts on the initiative, Owais Khan, Deputy CEO at Human Appeal, labelled Iftar for All an “inclusive call to action to support those in need”.

“Sharing food and Iftar is in the spirit of special occasions like Ramadan, and we want to show people how they can share and give back to those in need around them.”
