Recall Roundup: Incorrect use-by dates and choking hazards

In this instalment of Recall Roundup we look at food recalls that have occurred in the UK and US in the last week.

Recall Roundup: E.coli and metal contaminants

Use-by dates

In the UK, Ossa Organic is recalling its Organic Chicken Bone, Beef Bone and Vegetable Broth following a labelling error which shows in the incorrect use-by date.

The Ossa Organic Chicken Bone Broth comes in a pack size of 500g and has the batch code 2204. The use-by date written on the label is 05 November 2023. Meanwhile the Ossa Organic Beef Bone Broth comes in a pack size of 500g and has the batch code 2203. The use-by date written on the label is 05 November 2023. The Ossa Organic Vegetable Broth comes in a pack size of 500g and has the batch code 2114. The use-by date written on the label is 05 November 2023.

As well as recalling the above product from consumers, Ossa Organic has issued a point-of-sale notice to its consumers to explain why the products is being recalled.

Consumers that have bought the recalled products have been advised not to eat them. Instead they can be returned to the store of purchase for a full refund (with or without receipt).

Choking hazard

Meanwhile in the US, Foremost Food Corporation of Pomona, California is recalling its Mini Fruit Jelly Cup as the products are a potential choking hazard based off the product size.

The recalled jelly cups were reportedly distributed nationwide in Seafood City supermarkets and are sold in large clear jars.

According to the company, “no incidents of consumers choking have been reported to date in connection with these products”.

Consumers that have purchased the product have been advised to return it to the store of purchase for a full refund. Alternatively they have been advised to dispose of them in a sealed package in a secure garbage can with a tight-fitting lid.
