Recall Roundup: Frito-Lay and multiple undeclared allergens

Choking hazards

In the UK, Oriental Foods Distributor is recalling two of its jelly cup products as they contain “unauthorised additives” including Konjac flour and Carrageenan gelling agents. These are not permitted as ingredients in jelly confectionary as they present a choking hazard.

The first product is called “New Choice Taro flavour mini fruity gels” and comes in a 1kg jar. This recall affects all batch codes and all best before dates.

The second product is called “New Choice Tropical Flavour mini fruity gels” and also comes in a 1kg jar. All batch codes and all best before dates are included in the recall.

The company has said that the products can present a choking hazard due to the “consistency, solubility, shape, size and manner of consumption of the food”. It has also said that the products can be projected from the cup or capsule in one piece by exerting pressure at the tip and therefore may cause choking hazard.

Oriental Foods Distributor has said that the products can be returned to the store of purchase for a full refund with or without a receipt. Advice states that consumers should not eat them.

Labelling errors

Elsewhere in the UK, Interstoq is recalling Chocomel because it contains milk that is not listed in English on the label.

The recalled product comes in a pack size of 300ml. The best before dates included in the recall are 07 November 2023 and 29 November 2023.

Aldi removes ‘use by’ dates from fresh milk

The company has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations which will be able to inform their members about the recall. Interstoq has issued point-of-sale notices to explain why the product has been recalled.

If you have purchased the product and have an allergy to milk or milk constituents, advice states that you should drink it. It can be returned to Home Bargains for a full refund.
