Alternaria, a causal agent of disease in a broad variety of crops, is emerging as a new threat due to climate change.
The emergent pathogen Alternaria is the causal agent of disease in cereals, fruits and vegetables. Some species can produce toxic secondary metabolites, mycotoxins, that accumulate in fruits and grains. Warmer temperatures and dry weather will increase its incidence in crops in the Northern Hemisphere. Its toxins, in revision for upcoming legislation, will be more frequent in vegetable processed food. What to expect and how to be prepared for this new threat.
