Kellanova and Albertsons Companies have joined forces to addressing food insecurity in the US through a donation to hunger-relief efforts.
In a bid to tackle food insecurity in the US, Kellanova and Albertsons Companies are joining forces to support hunger-relief efforts for the fourth consecutive year.
Kellanova has shared that is donating $50,000 to Albertsons Cos. Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors charitable programme. The money will be put towards fighting food insecurity through food banks, pantries and hunger-relief charities in communities served by the Albertsons Cos. family of stores including Safeway, Albertsons, Vons, ACME and Shaw’s.
The donation is part of Albertsons Cos. Foundation’s “Feed the Love” in-store promotional campaign during February 2024 and will reportedly enable partner charities to provide approximately 200,000 meals to those in need.
Carrie Sander, North America Chief Consumer Officer at Kellanova has shared that the company is “incredibly proud” to continue the partnership, which has now been running for four consecutive years.
“Our customers are some of our strongest allies in our efforts to fulfil our Better Days Promise to tackle sustainable and equitable access to food,” continued Sander.
Currently in the US, 34 million people are facing food insecurity in the US alone, according to Feeding America. However action against hunger estimates that, worldwide, 49 million people across 43 countries “are at risk of falling into famine or a severe hunger crisis”.
With soaring food inflation to contend with, a study by Feeding America has unearthed that in 2022, 49 million Americans relied on food assistance such as support through food banks.
“Albertsons Cos. and Kellanova share the belief that everyone, especially children, should have access to nutritious food every day,” said Christy Duncan Anderson, President and Executive Director, Albertsons Cos. Foundation.
“We’re proud to be one of the largest contributors to food banks and hunger-relief programs in the neighborhoods we serve, thanks to our generous customers like Kellanova,” continued Duncan Anderson.
Looking to the future, Kellanova has said that its Better Days programme aims to support a total of four billion people by the end of 2030, advancing sustainable and equitable access to food across the globe.
