Recall Roundup: Exploding cans and allergen labelling

In the UK, Brew York is recalling its  Juice Forsyth product as there have been reports of cans exploding as a result of over carbonisation.

The company has said that they are actioning this recall on a “precautionary basis”.

The product in question comes in a pack size of 440ml and has the batch code Gyle 1036. The best before date to look our for is 23 July 2024.

As well as recalling the above product, point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.

Consumers have been advised that if they have purchased the product they should not drink it as the can may explode. Queries should be sent to  Brew York via an email to [email protected], and customers will be able to obtain a refund and replacement.

Further advice states that consumers should “avoid unnecessary handling of the product and do not return it to the store, instead, safely dispose of the product”.

Allergens

Meanwhile in the US, New Seasons Market based in Portland, Oregan is recalling its Strawberry Rhubarb Bakewell Tart as it contains almond that is not mentioned on the label.

The product was sold at the Bakery and Pastry departments in New Seasons Market stores in Oregon and Washington between the dates of 03/22/24 and 06/03/24. The company has confirmed that the product has a five-day shelf life. All best if used by dates are impacted by this recall.

The recalled product comes in a plastic clamshell container that has a black and white New Seasons Market scale label.

This recall occurred after a staff member consumed the Strawberry Rhubarb Bakewell Tart and experienced “a mild reaction” but “did not seek medical attention”

Scientists identify “first step” in allergic reactions

The manufacturer of the product confirmed the product contained almond flour, however almond was not listed in the product specification.

According to the company, no additional reports of adverse reactions have occurred to date.

Advice to consumers states that anyone who has purchased the product and has an allergy to almonds should dispose of it and not consumer it. Refunds can be obtained by contacting a manager in any New Seasons Market store.
