In the latest instalment of Recall Roundup, New Food highlights recent food and beverage recalls in the UK and US.

Recall roundup:

Undeclared peanuts

Following FGS Ingredients Ltd’s recent recall of over 100 products containing mustard powder due to possible peanut contamination, Spar’s Chicken Tikka Masala with Rice has been added to the recall list this week. These products pose a potential health risk for anyone with a peanut allergy.

For the full list of recalled products, visit the latest announcement on the UK Food Standards Agency website.

If you have bought any of the recalled products listed on the site and have an allergy to peanuts, do not eat them. Instead, please follow the advice mentioned in the attached notices on the FSA announcement page.

Undeclared milk

Also, in the UK this week, TK Maxx and Homesense are recalling their Oatrageous Chocolate Chip Chewy Granola Bars and Oatrageous Chewy Granola Bars Variety Pack due to undeclared milk. This poses a potential health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

The affected products, with best-before dates of 03-May-25, should not be consumed by individuals with these allergies.

TK Maxx and Homesense have notified allergy support organisations and issued recall notices to customers, advising those who have purchased these items not to eat them, but to return them to any TK Maxx or Homesense store for a full refund.

Presence of Salmonella

Spółdzielnia Mleczarska ‘Mlekpol’ has recalled its Mlekpol Zloty Mazur Cheese in Slices (150g) due to the presence of Salmonella in the product.

These products, with the batch code 30.08/P6 and a use-by date of 28-Nov-24, pose a health risk. Symptoms of Salmonella infection typically include fever, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps.

Mlekpol has issued recall notices to customers, advising those who have purchased these items not to consume them and instead return them to the store for a full refund.

Undeclared allergens

Supermarket giant Asda has recalled its ASDA Chicken Dinner (375g) due to undeclared allergens, including barley (gluten), egg, and milk.

Due to a packaging error, some packs contain ASDA Beef Dinners, which pose a health risk for anyone with coeliac disease or an allergy or intolerance to barley, gluten, egg, or milk.

These products, with a best-before date of 05-Sep-25, should not be consumed.

Customers who have purchased the affected items are advised to return them to their nearest Asda store for a refund, with or without a receipt.

Potential foodborne illness

In the latest recall in the US, Youngstown Grape Distributors Inc., a co-manufacturer for Happy Moose Juice, is voluntarily recalling ‘Happy Moose Tropical Roots Juice’ (Lot# H240903-E, Best By 02-Dec-24) and ‘Happy Moose Strawberry Fields’ (Lot# H240903-H, Best By 02-Dec-2024) due to a portion of the production not completing the High-Pressure Processing (HPP) treatment.

This treatment is crucial for extending shelf life, preventing spoilage, and reducing the risk of harmful pathogens such as Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, and diarrhoeagenic E. coli. Consumption of these pathogens can lead to serious illness.

It is important to note that no illnesses have been reported in connection with these products to date. No other production codes or products are affected.

Consumers who have purchased ‘Happy Moose Tropical Roots Juice’ or ‘Happy Moose Strawberry Fields’ with the affected Best By dates are advised to return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination

Finally, Jack and the Green Sprouts, Inc. has recalled its 5-ounce packages of Alfalfa and Alfalfa Onion sprouts due to the potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

While healthy individuals may experience only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

The affected products were sold in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa at grocery stores and local co-operatives.

The product is packaged in a 5-ounce clear plastic container with lot #300 UPC 763247198915 or #246 UPC 763247195945, displayed on the top.

No illnesses have been reported to date in relation to this issue.

Production has been halted while the company investigates the source of the contamination.

Consumers who have purchased the affected products should discard them or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.
