In the latest instalment of Recall Roundup (25-31 October 2024), New Food highlights recent food and beverage recalls in the UK and US.

Recall Roundup: FGS Ingredients recall continues

Undeclared peanuts

In the UK, FGS Ingredients Ltd is continuing its recent major recall on food and spice products that contain mustard.

These products are being recalled as they may contain peanuts not listed on the label, posing a serious health risk for individuals with a peanut allergy.

Customers are advised to check the latest allergy alert on the FSA website for updated products added to the recall list.

Anyone who has purchased any of these products and has a peanut allergy should not consume them. Instead, they should return the products to the store where they were bought for a full refund.

Undeclared egg

In the US this week, Grand Central Bakery in Portland, OR, and Seattle is recalling its U-Bake frozen pie products and pie dough due to undeclared egg, which poses a risk for individuals with egg allergies.

The affected products include U-Bake Pie Crust, U-Bake Apple Pie, U-Bake Marionberry Pie, and U-Bake Chicken Pot Pie, with expiration dates between 1 February 2025 and 20 April 2025. No illnesses have been reported.

Customers with affected products should contact the GCB café support team at [email protected] or visit their website for a refund.

Potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination

Also in the US, two brands have recalled products this week due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe, sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea. In pregnant women, it can lead to miscarriage and stillbirth.

The recalled products include:

  • Fresh Express: Limited number of Gourmet Café Chicken Caesar Salad Bowls recalled due to the inclusion of recalled chicken items from BrucePac, an external ingredient supplier. The fresh vegetable components are not impacted by this recall.
  • Acme Smoked Fish Corporation: Recall of 111 cases of Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon. No related illnesses have been reported to date.

For lot codes and best-before dates of all recalled products, please refer to the FDA recall links above.

Customers who purchased any of these items are urged not to consume them and should dispose of or return the items to their place of purchase for a refund.

Undeclared almonds

Atwater’s is recalling its Spider Web Tarts sold on 19 and 20 October due to undeclared almond flour, posing a risk to those with tree nut allergies.

The affected tarts were sold only at farmers’ markets in Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia, including Arlington Courthouse, Falls Church, H Street, Mount Pleasant, Silver Spring, Dupont Circle, Greenbelt, and Westover.

No related illnesses have been reported.

Consumers who purchased these tarts should contact Atwater’s directly to return the product for a refund.

Undeclared soy

Finally, Walters LLC (Elevation Foods) is recalling 1,668 units of Hannaford Seafood Salad 12oz due to an undeclared soy allergen, posing a risk for individuals with soy allergies.

The affected products have the UPC 0 41268 25161 2 and best before dates of 13 and 14 November 2024.

The recall was prompted by mislabelled packaging due to a label supplier error.

Consumers should not consume the product and may return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
