Recall Roundup: further cucumber-related recalls and undeclared allergens

Incorrect use by date

In the UK last week, Tesco recalled a specific date code of Tesco Red Cabbage & Apple 300G, due to the incorrect use by date code of 29 December printed on packs, instead of 11 December.

This means the product could be unsafe to eat after the 11 December 2024 date.

This is the second recall this month from the supermarket related to the printing of the incorrect use by date, following Tesco’s recent recall of its 8 Chicken Tsukune Skewers last week.

If you have bought the above product, please do not eat it. Instead return it to any Tesco store for a full refund (no receipt required) or contact the Tesco Customer Service on 0800 505 555.

Metal contamination

Brand Organic recalled various MadeGood Granola Bars because they contain pieces of metal.

The following products have been recalled:

• Chocolate Chip Organic (6x24g) – Best before: 30 May 2025, 31 May 2025, 18 November 2025
• Mixed Berry Organic (6x24g) – Best before: 22 May 2025, 27 June 2025
• Chocolate Banana Organic (6x24g) – Best before: 24 December 2025
• Chocolate Drizzled Birthday Cake Organic(5x24g) – Best before: 11 January 2025, 13 February 2025, 06 March 2025, 04 April 2025, 06 May 2025, 06 June 2025, 06 July 2025, 19 August 2025, 21 August 2025
• Chocolate Drizzled Vanilla Organic (5x24g) – Best before: 07 March 2025, 24 June 2025, 27 August 2025

If you have bought the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.

Potential Salmonella contamination

Last week in the US, additional products were recalled due to the ongoing Salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers.

Salmonella can cause serious infections in people with weakened immune systems and may lead to fever, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in healthy individuals.

The affected products include:

• Hardie’s Fresh Foods whole cucumbers
• Select lots of Sprouts Farmers Market Gyro Family Kits

Consumers should not consume these products; instead, they should either dispose of them or return them to the store where they were purchased.

Undeclared allergens

Borsari Food Co recalled all of its Bloody Mary Mix due to undeclared allergens.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to fish (anchovy), or soy that are not declared on the label run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The product is sold in a clear plastic 32 oz. bottle with a black label stating our brand name (Borsari) with “Bloody Mary Mix” in large block letters. The UPC code is 815893000101.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

Consumers who have purchased this product and have concern about the inclusion of the allergens are advised to return the product.

Potential Listeria Monocytogenes contamination

Finally in the US last week, New Age International Inc recalled its 200g packaged of Daily Veggies Enoki Mushrooms because they may be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe, sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea. In pregnant women, infection can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth.

The product comes in a 200g, clear plastic package marked with UPC code 8809159458890 on the back label.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product from October to November of 2024 are urged to destroy the products immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
