In the latest instalment of Recall Roundup (14-20 December 2024), New Food highlights recent food and beverage recalls in the UK and US.
Incorrect use-by date
In the UK this week, Tesco is recalling its 10 Cooked Beef Slices 125g because of a labelling error which shows an incorrect use-by date of 24 January 2025 instead of 24 December 2024.
This means the product could be unsafe to eat after the 24 December 2024 date.
If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to a Tesco store for a full refund.
Potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination
Dunnes Stores is recalling several of its cheeses and products containing cheese because of the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes in them.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe, sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea. In pregnant women, infection can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth.
The recall applies to all best-before dates of the following products:
- Dunnes Stores Wicklow Smoked Cheddar, 150g
- Dunnes Stores Wicklow Tomato & Herb Cheddar, 150g
- Dunnes Stores Wicklow Nettle & Chive Cheddar, 150g
- Dunnes Stores Wicklow Blue Brie, 150g
- Simply Better Irish Brie Cheese & Cranberry Quiche, 800g
- Simply Better Wicklow Ban in Ceramic Dish, 150g
- Simply Better Double Cream Wicklow Ban, 150g
- Simply Better Farmhouse Irish Cheese Selection, 735g
- Simply Better & Neven Maguire Cheese Selection, 705g
If you have bought the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.
Possible plastic contaminant
In the US this week, Palermo Villa, Inc. is issuing a recall of 1,728 Connie’s Thin Crust Cheese Frozen Pizzas because of a possible plastic foreign contaminant.
The affected product, Connie’s Thin Crust Cheese Pizza, has the lot number MR199856 and expired as of 27 November 2024.
This recall alert, which is being conducted under the full cooperation of the FDA, is being issued out of an abundance of caution in the event that a product remains in a consumer’s freezer.
Consumers who have purchased these pizzas are urged not to consume them. They should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for a refund.
All products produced outside of these lot numbers are safe for consumption. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported to date.
Multiple undeclared allergens
Cal Yee Farm LLC is recalling various chocolate, yogurt-covered, and trail mix products due to undeclared allergens, including milk, soy, wheat, sesame, FD&C #6, and almonds.
Consumers with allergies or sensitivities to these allergens risk serious reactions if these products are consumed.
For a full list of the recalled products and UPC codes, please visit the FDA recall page.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
Customers with milk, soy, wheat, sesame, FD&C #6 and almonds allergy/sensitivity who have purchased the affected products should not consume the product and should dispose of them or return them to us for a full refund.
Undeclared milk
Finally, Frito-Lay issued a recall of a limited number of 13 oz. bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips that may contain undeclared milk, after being alerted through a consumer contact.
Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product.
The recalled Frito-Lay products have the UPC 28400 31041 and also must have both a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of 11 FEB 2025 and a manufacturing code starting with 6462307xx or 6463307xx.
If consumers have an allergy or sensitivity to milk, they should not consume the product and discard it immediately.
