Colin has said “I am very honoured and delighted to have been elected President of the Institute of Food Science and Technology [IFST] at a time when the importance of our sector has never been greater, nationally and internationally. The Foresight report ‘The Future of Food and Farming: Challenges and choices for global sustainability’, published in January 2011, emphasises the need to respond urgently to the global issues of ending hunger and achieving food security, ensuring sustainable food systems and contributing to the mitigation of climate change in order to provide an available, accessible and affordable supply of safe, nutritious food for all in the decades to come.”

“I very much look forward to working with staff and members to enhance the recognition of our profession and especially promoting continuing professional development of all scientists, technologists and engineers engaged in providing scientific and technical solutions to the above challenges”.

Colin has been a Fellow of IFST since 1984 and was Director General of Campden BRI until 2009, a post which he held for 21 years. Colin is Chairman of the English Food and Drink alliance and has served on many government and industry advisory committees in the UK and overseas. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his many services to the agri-food industry in 2009.
