Our top story this week comes from the UK, where the Alliance to Save our Antibiotics has expressed concern that some food products on supermarket shelves might have been produced with what it has called a misuse of antibiotics. The alliance also fears that trade talks with other countries could lead to antibiotic loopholes within the UK’s food system.
Do sugary drink taxes work in the US? That’s the question researchers at Ohio State University have been tackling. The answer? Sometimes. If the tax is clearly stated on the product, then research showed that influenced purchases, however this rule did not apply if the increase in price was relatively small.
And finally, meal kit provider HelloFresh has declared Italian cuisine as the UK’s favourite. HelloFresh also predicted that next year could be a big one for protein, while classic carbs look to be on the decline.
