The New Food editorial team deliver your food and beverage update, featuring some fascinating research studies and a banned smoothie advert.
A new study has claimed that eating vegetables does not protect against cardiovascular disease. The findings challenge previous research that suggests eating more vegetables is linked to a lower risk of the disease. Researchers say past studies may not have taken into account lifestyle and socioeconomic factors such as a person’s drinking habits, smoking habits, education and wealth.
A different study has found that cranberries can help heart health and blood pressure levels. Researchers say the fruit can have beneficial effects including aiding the modulation of blood flow.
And finally, an advertisement by popular fruit smoothie company Innocent has been banned by the UK Advertising Standards Authority after the regulator deemed it misled viewers on the total environmental impact of Innocent’s products.
