The New Food editorial team bring you your rapid food and beverage update in just 60 seconds, featuring new regulations in the UK and a surprising revelation on avocados and heart health.
Reports have emerged that the UK’s ban on buy one get one free offers on foods high in fat sugar and salt could be shelved, as the UK faces and increasingly worse cost-of-living crisis. It’s feared that restrictions on these products could cause further hardship for those already struggling to make ends meet.
Regulation that will affect businesses in the present is the new rules around calorie labelling, which will come into force on April 6th in just five days time. Businesses with more than 250 employees will have to provide calorie information on physical menus, online menus, food delivery platforms or food labels.
And finally research from the Journal of the American Heart Association has revealed the surprising effect avocados have on heart health. Eating just two servings a week could lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.
