In the latest instalment of Recall Roundup, New Food highlights recent food and beverage recalls in the UK and US.
Undeclared Peanuts
In the UK, Aldi is recalling two of its soup products because they may contain peanuts, which are not mentioned on the label. This makes them a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts. The recalled products are:
• Soupreme Creamy Chicken Soup, 600g, with a best-before date of 01 October 2024.
• Specially Selected Pea and Ham Hock Soup, 600g, with a best-before date of 28 September 2024.
The company has issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers, informing them to return these products to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.
Lead Contamination
In the US, Asli Fine Foods is recalling its Asli Cinnamon Powder, 7 oz, because it may be contaminated with lead. This follows several other US brands recalling their ground cinnamon/cinnamon powder products due to potential contamination with elevated levels of lead in August 2024.
The recalled product has the following LOT and UPC numbers:
• LOT: DDDLUS
• UPC: 703440150723
The recall was the result of a routine sampling program by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, which revealed that the finished products contained lead. The company has ceased production and distribution of the product while the FDA and the company continue their investigation into the cause of the contamination.
Consumers who have purchased Asli Cinnamon Powder 7 oz are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Undeclared Fish
The latest U.S. recall comes from Niitakaya USA Inc. which is recalling all Best By dates of its 5.2-ounce packages of #3700 Shiso Katsuo Ninniku and #3701 Miso Katsuo Ninniku because they may contain an undeclared allergen: fish (Bonito).
People who have allergies to fish run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The recalled products were distributed nationwide to retail stores and through distributors. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Distribution of the product has been suspended until the company is certain the issue has been corrected. Consumers who have bought the above products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund, if allergic to fish.
