In the latest instalment of Recall Roundup, New Food highlights recent food and beverage recalls in the UK and US.
Undeclared milk
In the UK, Iceland Foods Ltd is recalling Iceland 2 Vegetable Balti Bakes (280g) because it may contain milk, which is not mentioned on the label. This poses a potential health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. The recalled product has a best before date of 9th July 2026.
The retailer advises customers who have bought this product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents not to consume it. Instead, they should return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
Undeclared cereals (barley and wheat)
Lidl Northern Ireland is recalling Deluxe Chicken & Vegetable Soup (400g) with a use-by date of 29th September 2024 due to undeclared barley (gluten) and wheat (gluten). Due to a packaging error, the soup has been packaged into the incorrect Sweet Potato & Chicken Soup tub with the correct Chicken & Vegetable Soup lid. This poses a potential health risk for anyone with coeliac disease and/or an allergy or intolerance to barley, wheat, or gluten.
Consumers should return the recalled products to the store where they were purchased.
Salmonella contamination
In the US this week, two brands have announced recalls of their products due to a potential health risk from Salmonella contamination. The affected products include:
- Milo’s Poultry Farms, LLC is recalling all carton sizes and expiration dates of “Milo’s Poultry Farms” and “Tony’s Fresh Market” branded eggs.
- Eagle Produce LLC is recalling 224 cases of whole cantaloupes, which have a red and white sticker with “KANDY” across the top and UPC number code 4050.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Consumers are urged not to consume these products.
Undeclared milk
Also in the US, Hammond’s Candies is recalling 4-ounce bags of Dark Chocolate Filled Mini Waffle Cones because they may contain undeclared milk. People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products. The recalled product contains the codes LN0525453 Use By: 03/20/2025 and LN0525453 Use By: 05/20/2025. One report of an allergic reaction has been linked to this issue to date.
Consumers who have purchased Hammond’s Dark Chocolate Filled Mini Waffle Cones are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Undeclared walnuts
Innovation Bakers, LLC in the US is issuing a voluntary limited recall of one day’s production of its 3.5 oz packs of 7-Eleven Fudge Brownie (05254856392) because they may contain undeclared walnuts. People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products. The recall affects 2,081 single-serve units of 7-Eleven Fudge Brownie that were distributed only to 7-Eleven stores in the Southern California region and delivered on 09/08/2024 and 09/09/2024. The product comes in a 3.5 oz pack marked with Lot Code: Best by Wednesday 09/11.
