In the latest instalment of Recall Roundup (18-24 October 2024), New Food highlights recent food and beverage recalls in the UK and US.
Undeclared peanuts
In the UK this week, FGS Ingredients Ltd is continuing its recent recall of several food and spice products containing mustard, as they may contain peanuts not mentioned on the label.
These products could pose a serious health risk for consumers with a peanut allergy.
Consumers are advised to read the latest allergy alert on the FSA website for all additional products added to the recall list.
Anyone who has purchased any recalled products and has a peanut allergy should not eat them. Instead, they should return the items to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
Potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination
In the US, several food companies and brands have recalled products this week due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe, sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea.
In pregnant women, Listeria monocytogenes can also lead to miscarriage and stillbirth.
The recalled products include:
- TreeHouse Foods has recalled its frozen toaster waffles, Belgian waffles, and pancakes.
- Dakota Tom’s Sandwiches has recalled Pepperjack Cheeseburgers, Bacon Cheeseburgers, and The Gambler sandwiches, due to a recall of the burger patties from an outside supplier (BrucePac).
- Albertsons Companies has voluntarily recalled 12 types of ready meals and store-made deli items, supplied by Fresh Creative Foods, due to a recalled ready-to-eat chicken ingredient from BrucePac.
- Sprouts Farmers Market has voluntarily recalled select lots of its Chicken Street Taco kits, supplied by Fresh Creative Foods.
For lot codes and best-before dates of all the recalled products, please visit the individual FDA recall alert links attached in the list above.
Customers who have purchased any of the above items are urged not to consume them. Instead they should dispose of them or return the items to their place of purchase for a refund.
Undeclared soy and wheat
Also in the US this week, The Con Yeager Spice Company is recalling its Trail Bologna Meat Processing Kits as they may contain undeclared soy and wheat.
Affected pouches of the meal kits are marked with lot #B241851006 and a best-before date of 2-08-27.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with this issue to date.
Customers who have purchased the affected product should contact Con Yeager Spice for return and replacement.
Potential Salmonella risk
Finally, Church Brothers Farms is voluntarily recalling 1,271 cases of green onions due to potential Salmonella contamination.
Salmonella can cause serious infections in people with weakened immune systems and may lead to fever, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in healthy individuals.
The affected products are labelled as Green Onion Iceless 4x2lb Reg with the lot code CB272378.
These products should be discarded and not consumed.
