In the latest instalment of Recall Roundup (1-7 November 2024), New Food highlights recent food and beverage recalls in the UK and US.
Undeclared peanuts
In the UK, FGS Ingredients Ltd is continuing its recent major recall on food and spice products that contain mustard.
These products are being recalled as they may contain peanuts not listed on the label, posing a serious health risk for individuals with a peanut allergy.
Customers are advised to check the latest allergy alert on the FSA website for updated products added to the recall list.
Anyone who has purchased any of these products and has a peanut allergy should not consume them. Instead, they should return the products to the store where they were bought for a full refund.
Undeclared mustard and sulphites
In the UK, Co-op is recalling its Irresistible Luxury Lasagne Al Forno (700g, use by 17 November 2024) due to undeclared mustard and sulphites on the label, posing a health risk for those with mustard allergies or sulphite sensitivities.
If you have purchased this product and have an allergy to mustard or a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide/sulphites, please do not consume it.
Dispose of the product and visit your local store for a refund or replacement (subject to availability). For online purchases, call 0330 041 7737 for a refund.
Potential Listeria monocytogenes
In the US, two brands have recalled products this week due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe, sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea. In pregnant women, it can lead to miscarriage and stillbirth.
The recalled products include:
- HH Fresh Trading Corp: 200g Taiwan Enoki mushrooms. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.
- Savencia Cheese USA: Select soft-ripened cheeses produced at the Lena manufacturing facility. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse health events due to consumption of these products.
For lot codes and best-before dates of all recalled products, please refer to the FDA recall links above.
Customers who purchased any of these items are urged not to consume them and should dispose of or return the items to their place of purchase for a refund.
Undeclared eggs
Furthermore, Babcock Dairy is voluntarily recalling 41 cases of Orange Custard Chocolate Chip ice cream that may be mislabelled as Chocolate Peanut Butter.
This recall affects products with a production date of 09 17 24 (September 17, 2024) in half-gallon containers.
The mislabelling poses a serious risk to people with allergies to eggs or yellow #5 dye. No illnesses have been reported.
The recall applies to products sold in Wisconsin at local retailers and directly to customers.
Customers should check the production date on the container bottom and, if affected, return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
