Burton’s Foods, a leading player in the UK biscuit market, today announces it has achieved its target to source 100% segregated palm oil two years ahead of schedule. Effective immediately, the Company is using segregated palm oil in the baking of all its products, meaning the sustainable supply can be fully traced from plantation to product.

Stuart Wilson, Chief Marketing Officer at Burton’s Foods said: “This achievement marks another important milestone in our CSR programme, Baking a Difference. Reaching our target to source 100% segregated sustainable palm oil two years early is reflective of our commitment to making environmentally responsible purchasing decisions and taking swift action. Our customers and consumers can be reassured that we will continue to do all we can to work towards a sustainable future.”

The company, which produces iconic and much-loved brands including Jammie Dodgers, Maryland Cookies and Cadbury biscuits, became the first sweet biscuit manufacturer to acquire GreenPalm certificates for 100% of its palm oil usage in early 2010. It will continue to purchase all its palm kernel oil and palm oil derivatives via this internationally recognised scheme until a segregated supply source is available.

Burton’s Foods has supported the drive towards palm oil sustainability since 2006, when it became a member of the RSPO. In 2008, it was one of the first companies to purchase the initial RSPO certified segregated palm oil into the UK.
